Aldi’s ‘Fresh Meat Special Buy’

‘Tis the season for roasts so what better time to head to Aldi to pick up one of its weekly discounted cuts of meat. Perhaps that’s what TINA.org reader Judy P. was thinking when she saw this ad for a luscious bone-in rib eye roast at $5.99 a pound, one of four “Fresh Meat Special Buy” items at Aldi supermarkets this week:

But when Judy got to the store around noon Wednesday she said she was informed that it had sold out of the rib eye roast earlier in the morning. An Aldi employee called around but none of the other stores in the area had any rib eye roast left either.

“They printed a beautiful ad to get people to come to their store and then they didn’t have the item,” Judy wrote in an email to TINA.org. “I am 71 years old and drove all the way over there in heavy traffic specifically to get the roast and there were none.”

On its website, Aldi discloses that “our weekly supply is extremely limited,” among other exceptions related to its meat bargains (reserving “the right to limit quantities” is another one). In contrast, there are no disclosures regarding availability on the page advertising the rib eye roast in the weekly print ad.

Me(at)thinks there should be.
