Alkaline Water Plus

Are there really any benefits to drinking alkaline water?

“170 diseases tested so far – all positive,” Alkaline Water Plus says in the worst science fair project ever.

Alkaline Water Plus sells water-ionizing machines that purportedly turn plain tap water into alkaline water (aka water with a high pH level), which the company claims helps prevent and treat diseases such as cancer, diabetes, eczema, irritable bowel syndrome, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s, in addition to 164 others according to the “170 diseases” statement.

However, according to the Cleveland Clinic, there have been no empirical studies showing that alkaline water has any health benefits. Moreover, the clinic warns that creating pH extremes in either direction in the body can cause health problems.

The water ionizers that Alkaline Water Plus sells range in price from $995 to $2,715. Always do your research and check with your doctor before making such a large purchase that involves your health.

Of note, alkaline water was the subject of a trend in class-action litigation in 2019.
