Beneful Dry and Kibble Dog Foods

In November 2016, a federal judge granted Purina’s motion for summary judgment in a false advertising class-action lawsuit filed against it in February 2015. The complaint, which was amended in June 2016, alleges that Purina deceptively markets Beneful dry and kibble dog food – including Beneful Healthy Weight, Beneful Original, and Beneful Incredibites – as being “healthy” and providing dogs with “great nutrition” without disclosing that the dog food contains dangerous levels of ingredients that are harmful to a dog’s health. The judge granted the motion for summary judgment finding that the plaintiffs’ case did not have evidentiary support. (Lucido et al v. Nestlé Purina Petcare Co., Case No. 15-cv-569, N. D. CA.)
