Boxes of Ronzoni Specialty Pastas

August 2019: This case was transferred to federal court. (Case No. 19-cv-1572, C. D. CA.)

July 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed alleging that Riviana Foods and New World Pasta Company deceptively use slack-filled boxes for Ronzoni® specialty pastas. Plaintiffs claim that the companies make consumers believe they are getting more pasta than they actually are by using the same size boxes for its specialty pastas and traditional pastas even though the boxes of specialty pastas contain 25% less pasta. According to the complaint, the boxes of specialty pasta contain 12 ounces of pasta and the boxes of traditional pastas contain 16 ounces of pasta. (Clevenger et al v. Riviana Foods, Inc. dba Ronzoni and New World Pasta Company, Case No. 30-2019-01082583, California State Court – Orange County)
