Breyers Natural Vanilla Ice Cream

In April 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Unilever United States, Inc. for allegedly misleadingly marketing that the flavor in Breyers Natural Vanilla Ice Cream comes from vanilla when, according to plaintiffs, the ingredients list reveals that the ice cream contains unspecified “Natural Flavor” and testing shows that most of the vanilla flavor comes from non-vanilla ingredients. Plaintiffs also claim that the company deceptively adds exhausted vanilla bean specks to make consumers think the ice cream contains more vanilla than it actually does. (Nunez et al v. Unilever United States, Inc., Case NO. 20-cv-3846, C.D. Cal.)
