In November 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against HomeAway (an operator of vacation rental websites) for allegedly operating a bait-and-switch scheme. Among other things, the complaint alleges that the company charged members fees to list vacation properties on its websites and allowed travelers to search and book vacation rental properties without disclosing that the company was planning to substantially change the business model.
