Gas Prices at Valero Stations

September 2020: Plaintiffs moved for preliminary approval of a proposed settlement agreement in which the gas station agreed to, among other things, disclose the price consumers who pay using debit cards will be charged. The agreement does not provide class members with any monetary relief.

2016: Plaintiffs amended their complaint to allege that Valero fails to disclose its policy of charging a higher credit card price for purchases made using debit cards.

2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against gas station Valero Energy for allegedly misleading consumers who pay with debit cards by charging them the higher price advertised for credit card purchases when, according to plaintiffs, debit cards are like cash because the money is withdrawn immediately and consumers who pay with debit cards should be charged the lower price advertised for cash payments. (Bautista et al v. Valero Marketing and Supply Company, Case No. 15-cv-5557, N.D. Cal.)
