H&R Block’s Free Tax Services

June 2019: The case was transferred to federal court. (Case No. 19-cv-3610, N. D. CA.)

May 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed against H&R Block for allegedly misleadingly advertising free tax services when, according to plaintiffs, the company directs taxpayers who are eligible for free tax filing services to its paid programs and makes it difficult to find its free tax services. Plaintiffs also claim that the company’s practices violate an agreement with the IRS in which H&R Block agreed to offer free services to low-income taxpayers. (Olosoni et al v. H&R Block, Inc. et al, Case No. CGC-19-576093, California State Court – San Francisco)
