Lifetime Maps and Traffic on Garmin Navigation Devices

July 2019: This case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice, the reasons for which have not been disclosed.

May 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Garmin USA for allegedly misleadingly marketing that portable navigation devices – including Drivesmart, Nüvi, Drive, and DriveAssist – come with free lifetime maps and traffic data when, according to plaintiffs, the “lifetime” promise is restricted by several factors, including the life and memory capacity of the device and whether the company receives traffic data from its supplier. (McVettty et al v. Garmin USA, Inc., Case No. 19-cv-4706, S.D.N.Y.)
