CATrends: The mAh Ratings of Portable Chargers (aka Power Banks)
Class-action lawsuits allege that the mAh ratings of several portable chargers are greatly exaggerated.
myCharge Power Banks
In November 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against RFA Brands for allegedly misrepresenting the milliampere-hours (mAh) of myCharge Power Banks (portable power sources that can be used to charge electronic devices). According to the complaint, testing shows that the mAh – which represents the number of times a Power Bank can recharge a device before it needs to be recharged – is actually much lower than advertised. For example, the complaint alleges that the advertised mAh of one of the myCharge Power Banks is 3000 mAh when, according to plaintiffs, testing shows that the mAh is only 1902 mAh. (Mancuso et al v.
