In January 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Bank of America for allegedly falsely promising accountholders that it does not charge overdraft fees on non-recurring debit card and ATM transactions when, according to plaintiffs, the bank charges overdraft fees on one-time purchases from retailers such as Starbucks. (Crockrom et al v. Bank of America, N.A. et al, Case No. 20-cv-13, S. D. NY.)
