PowerBar Clean Whey Protein Bars
August 2018: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Premier Nutrition Corp. for allegedly misleadingly marketing PowerBar Clean Whey Protein bars to give consumers the impression that they contain a greater amount of “clean” (or the most concentrated form of) whey protein – whey protein isolate – than they actually do. According to the complaint, the bars contain a lower grade of protein based on their concentration of protein and fat content. Plaintiffs also claim that the company markets the products as containing “No Artificial Colors, Flavors, or Sweeteners” when, according to the complaint, the bars contain an artificial and synthetic sweetener erythritol. (Ransom et al v. Premier Nutrition Corp., Case No. 18-cv-4617, E. D. NY.)
