In October 2018, a class-action lawsuit
was filed against Sperian Energy for allegedly deceptively using a bait-and-switch scheme to deceive consumers. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the company lures consumers to switch electricity suppliers by offering low teaser rates for a fixed period of time when, according to plaintiffs, the company switches customers into a market variable rate that is higher than the initial teaser rate and the rates of its competitors after the initial teaser rate expires. , Case No. 18-cv-6968, N. D. IL.)
