Coffeemaker's Made in the USA marketing takes a lump after FTC inquiry.

The coffee’s on but the Made in the USA marketing is off.

A recent FTC inquiry into Ratio Coffee’s Made in the USA claims for its Eight coffee pot found:

[A]lthough Ratio assembles coffeemakers in the United States using some domestic components, most of the parts used — including the parts that make the coffeemakers functional — are imported.

Products marketed with an unqualified Made in the USA claim must be “all or virtually all” manufactured in the U.S., according to the FTC’s Made in the USA standard.

In order to close out the inquiry Ratio Coffee told the FTC that it would add clear and conspicuous language stating that the coffee pots incorporate significant imported content to its marketing materials; provide wholesale customers with those updated materials; and update social media accounts and posts to clarify its U.S.-origin representations.

At this writing, the company’s Instagram account touts that its products are “[d]esigned & assembled in Portland, Oregon USA,” with no mention of significant imported parts:
