The stated mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which was established in 1934, is to “protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.”
Among its many responsibilities, the SEC enforces the laws regarding advertisements by investment companies and investment advisers.
The SEC also invites investors to file complaints about a company’s or adviser’s fraudulent conduct, and false or misleading statements.
