Small Appliances from Spectrum Brands

October 2018: A state court judge preliminarily approved a settlement agreement. According to its terms, class members who submit valid claims may receive a refund of up to $4. In addition, Spectrum Brands agreed to more clearly indicate that the Black & Decker brand and logos are trademarks of Black & Decker and are used under license. Spectrum Brands also agreed to modify boxes of its multi-cup coffeemakers to indicate the approximate size of each brewed cup.

February 2018: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Spectrum Brands and Applica Consumer Products for allegedly deceptively using the “Black & Decker” brand name on small household appliances that are not actually Black & Decker products, and misleadingly market the “cup” capacity of certain coffeemakers. (Liptai v. Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc., et al, Case No. 2018CV000321, Wisconsin State Court – Dane County)
