Sony Xperia SP

The ASA has found Sony's advertising for the Xperia SP phone to be misleading.

The The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is a self-regulatory body that monitors advertising in the United Kingdom. has found Sony’s advertising for the Xperia SP phone to be misleading. According to the ASA, Sony advertised the phone as having an aluminum (or “aluminium,” if you’re some kind of heathen) frame when in fact the frame is made of a combination of aluminum and plastic.

Specific advertising claims about the phone included a “co-moulded aluminium frame” and “we chose the colours black, white and red, which complement the metal structure as well as the quality of each component.”

The ASA banned the ad in its current form in the U.K., but similar claims can still be found on the U.S. Sony website. If you for some reason care deeply about your phone’s frame being made of solid, visible aluminum, maybe look for another phone.
