Americall was found to actually TRAIN its employees to ignore consumers’ requests to be placed on the company’s do not call list. How did the FTC know? Apparently, they put it in black and white right in their representative training manual.

More than 209 million U.S. phone numbers are now registered with the service, which has been active since 2003. In 2011, consumers filed over 630,000 complaints, mostly regarding recorded messages or robocalls (largely illegal since 2009).

Don’t let yourself become a target of deceptive telemarketing calls. When you get that annoying call right in the middle of dinner, your first instinct is to hang up, right?
