Tax Services from Wall & Associates
April 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Wall & Associates for allegedly falsely advertising its tax relief services by deceiving consumers about the location of its offices and misrepresenting the cost and duration of its services, as well as the experience and qualifications of its employees. Among other things, plaintiffs claim that:
- The company misrepresents that it has offices and locations around the country when, according to the complaint, the company performs work out of its permanent offices in Virginia and Tennessee and only rents “local offices” for appointments with consumers;
- The company tells consumers they are meeting with tax consultants and tax experts to get tax advice when, according to the complaint, consumers are actually meeting with salespeople who have little to no tax-related work experience or education and the salespeople do not give consumers tax advice; and
- Salespeople encourage and pressure consumers to sign up without evaluating if they need and can afford to pay for services.
(Plaintiffs filed an amended complaint in May 2020.) (Vandermast et al v. Wall & Associates, Inc., Case No. E168480/2019, New York State Court – Niagara)
