The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is the public health agency in the U.S. Department of Agriculture responsible for ensuring that commercial meat, poultry, and egg products are safe, wholesome, and correctly labeled and packaged.  In that role, the FSIS develops and provides labeling guidance meant to ensure that all labels are truthful and not misleading.  For more information on the FSIS’s labeling guidelines, click here and here.
