FTC raises concerns about rising desks' Made in the USA marketing.

Remove the foreign parts from an “American Made” VersaTables adjustable standing desk and all you’re left with is an ordinary desk, which prompted the FTC to raise concerns about the rising desks.

“[A]lthough Versa’s adjustable standing desks include some U.S. components, key parts such as the electric motors used to raise and lower the desks are imported,” the FTC wrote in a recent closing letter to the brand’s parent company regarding its unqualified Made in the USA claims.

Products marketed with an unqualified Made in the USA claim such as “American Made” must be “all or virtually all” manufactured in the U.S., according to the FTC’s Made in the USA standard.

In order to close out the agency’s inquiry Versa told the FTC that it would remove all unqualified Made in the USA claims from the company’s website, social media accounts, marketing materials, and product packaging not only for VersaTables but for all its brands and, where appropriate, introduce qualified claims such as “Designed and Assembled in the USA” and/or “Designed and Assembled with Love in the USA.”
