Wegmans Vanilla Cake Mix

In April 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Wegmans Food Markets for allegedly misleading representing on the front label of its Vanilla Cake Mix that the flavoring ingredient is vanilla when, according to plaintiffs, the product contains flavoring ingredients that are not derived from the vanilla bean. According to the complaint, the ingredients list for the cake mix does not include a vanilla ingredient and reveals that the product contains “Natural Flavor” instead. (Santiful et al v. Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., Case No. 20-cv-2933, S.D.N.Y.)
