What’s Wrong with Right Size Smoothies?

A TINA.org reader alerted us to an ad for Right Size smoothies.

Right Size Health and Nutrition is a company that sells weight-loss smoothie mixes that you might have seen on television. This company shows shocking weight loss results in its commercials. The company’s site advertises “you can expect to lose up to 18 lbs. in 12 weeks.”

This does seem like a great option for easy and effective weight loss. All you have to do is replace two meals a day with these smoothies and you’ll lose pounds weekly.

But always remember to look for the fine print. At the bottom of the website is a disclaimer that says: “Results not typical.”

The site also has some interesting numbers listed.

The company clearly advertises 15 grams of protein in its smoothies in this photo from their site. However, when looking at the nutritional information about these smoothies there is only 7 grams in a serving size. The smoothies are sold in a package of 30 serving cups, for a 30-day program, but doesn’t each serving only have 7 grams? That math doesn’t add up to 15 grams of protein in a smoothie.

Part of the reason this product is advertised as being effective is because of its high protein content that “digests slower because of its dense structure.” But if there is not as much protein as advertised then will the product be as effective?

There are a few other things to note about Right Size. The company has an F rating with the BBB and 77 complaints from consumers. One of the most notable issues consumers are complaining about is the negative option offer. When a consumer is lured in with a free trial offer, they must agree to the Terms & Conditions in order to get their promised free smoothies. The terms and conditions state that the consumer will automatically be enrolled in an auto-shipment plan and charged monthly for deliveries.

An additional Terms & Conditions has another potentially troubling policy. It states that:

We grant to you a limited, revocable, and nonexclusive right to create a hyperlink to the home page of this site provided that the link does not portray us or our products or services in a false, misleading, derogatory, or offensive matter.

So remember say only nice things when referencing Right Size’s site, or else.
